DESIGN QUESTIONS

ANSWERED

What is the first step in hiring you?

We offer a free 20-minute phone consultation.  You can schedule a time here.

How do you if we would be a good fit for each other?

During our 20-minute conversation, we want to get to know you.  We want to understand the challenges with the space, your needs, vision, and goals.  We share with you our design aesthetic, approach, inspirations, and successful client relationships.  We both need to come to the decision that we are a good fit in terms of aesthetics, timing, and compatibility. Often times, it comes down to just connecting with each other. After all, it is a relationship and the goal for both parties is to enjoy not only the outcome but also the process. It’s as much about the journey as the destination!

How long would it take to complete my project?

Depending on your project, it can take from 8 weeks to 24 weeks if there is no renovation, construction, or custom furniture pieces involved. If you are in a rush or have a special date you would like your project to be completed by, please let us know as we may have options to make it work. Sometimes, there are unexpected delays in the project, but we do our best to adhere to the timeline.  Nevertheless, we send constant communication throughout the project so you are always in the loop and there are no surprises.

Will I get to see a mood board or renderings before ordering?

Of course!  We aren’t in the business of surprising homeowners unless it’s the big reveal.  You will not only know the design plan (which may include a floor plan and renderings) but also see/feel the materials that we source for the project.  We don’t want to hold back on our design as we want to create excitement around the process and outcome.

What are the the fees associated with a Full Service Design Project?

  • design fee (flat fee to conceptualize the design and finalize the cost of the project)

  • furnishings (includes project management, cost of furnishings + all known shipping/handling/installation)

  • sales tax

There may be other fees associated with the project and will be detailed in the contract. GC Interiors always gets prior approval of fees and charges from the client.

Is there a minimum budget and can you work within my budget?

While there is no minimum, we have a budget guide to help you determine how much interior design furnishings cost and what to expect. Cost is part of the conversation from the very beginning, so we don’t set you up for failure or disappointment. Having this discussion up front allows us to determine the following: if we are the right fit, if the overall vision lines up with your budget, and how we can provide solutions to make your vision a reality while keeping your project at your price point. If we ultimately feel your timeline, budget, and vision don’t align, we will be upfront about it.

Will I get a discount if I hire you to do multiple rooms?

It depends.  When multiple rooms are designed together, the goal is to make the spaces look cohesive and flow.  This can in some cases cut down on the design hours needed.  This is especially true when the rooms are on the same level or next to each other.  We go over this possibility from the start as cost is an important part of the process and is more impactful if discussed upfront.

Can I buy my own furniture and accessories?

Part of the process of Full Service Design is to let us do the sourcing, purchasing, delivery, and installation.  This allows us to track all the moving parts of the project and deal with unexpected issues quickly with minimum interruption and delay to the project timeline.  Also, often times we source custom furniture, bedding, pillows, and window treatments that are available only to the trade (not to the general public) so your designed home is unique to you/your family. Lastly, when possible, we like to source furnishings made in the USA.

What if I have furnishings or accessories that I don’t want to part with?

GC Interiors loves working with your existing furnishings.  We believe in upcycling, recycling, and reupholstery – and will strive do whatever it takes to incorporate your treasured furniture and accessories into the space.  However, sometimes it doesn’t make sense because of scale, color, or function in which case we would have an open and honest discussion about it.  Ultimately, it’s your home so we want to respect that while still helping you achieve the vision for the space.

Do you offer free consultations?

We offer a free 20-minute phone consultation.  When we both agree to move forward, the next step is to meet in your home.  However, we don’t start the design process until we have a contract in place that outlines the project, your budget, and what we are looking to accomplish.  If you don’t need full service design, we also offer color consultations, room planning, home staging, styling, and window treatments.

Do you have a specific style?

The firm’s aesthetic focuses on a modern chic design while still embracing comfort, warmth, and ease.  Gayatri Choudhary, the principal designer has traveled the world and is influenced by living both on the East and West coasts.  We always respect the style of our client’s homes and aim to create a better version of it.  At GC Interiors, we love all styles of beautiful fabrics, wallpapers, and furnishings.  Please check out our portfolio and read our reviews to see how we have merged our style with our clients.

How closely do you collaborate with clients?

Collaboration is very important especially in the beginning when we are getting to know you, your likes/dislikes, style, wants, needs, and lifestyle.  We come prepared with questions and sample materials to really understand your vision & goals.  Once we feel we have a good understanding, we prefer to step away and let our creativity flow.  We come back to you with a design plan that we hope will knock your socks off.  Sometimes, we provide more than one option for an item especially when working with couples who have differing opinions or artwork where it’s a very personal decision.  This is the hardest part of the process where you have to let go and trust the process.

How many projects do you work on at a time? Do you have time for mine?

We usually have several projects that we are working on at the same time but they are rarely the same size nor are they in the same phase. This allows us to devote the time needed to all our clients without compromising the design, project management, or installation.  We constantly keep our clients in the loop and aim to answer all emails and phone calls within 1-2 business days at most. When we take vacations or are out of town, we let all our ongoing clients know ahead of time along with a status report.

Do you work with contractors or new builds?

We love renovations and are happy to work with your contractor and subcontractors. We will do our part to communicate the overall design and aesthetic while providing details of the project and checking in on a regular basis. If you don’t have a contractor, we will be happy to recommend ones we have vetted and/or worked with.
